Learning analytics aims at improving education outcomes and optimizing learning by analyzing educational data generated from teaching and learning activities. Leveraged by the use of learning analytics techniques, and adopting a data-driven approach, instructors and learners may experience enhanced teaching and learning processes, with personalized learning experiences, and where they make data-informed decisions based on the information made available and visible to them. However, and despite the many benefits of learning analytics, its potential remains untapped. Learning analytics still faces several challenges that stand in the way of its advancement; such challenges include individual’s concerns (ethical issues, data privacy and security issues), data-related elements (quality of information), or educational aspects (for example, how to successfully integrate learning analytics, learning design and educational processes). The track on learning analytics at the Technological Ecosystem for Enhancing Multiculturality 2023 aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, and educators to discuss the challenges and opportunities of learning analytics in education. The conference will provide participants with a platform for sharing their latest research findings, experiences, and ideas on the use of learning analytics. With our proposed overarching title, “Data-Driven Education: Overcoming Hurdles for the Future of Learning Analytics”, we aim to drive attention towards the need to address the challenges for learning analytics to realize its full potential for enhancing education. We seek to receive submissions of research full papers and work in progress that explore current challenges in learning analytics.
